Electrical Engineering

Electrical engineers work on systems for the generation, distribution, utilisation and control of electric power with equipment ranging from heavy power generators to tiny computer chips. Electrical engineers design, develop and supervise the manufacture, installation, operation and maintenance of electrical systems. They also work on electronic systems used for computing, communications and other industrial applications.

Electrical engineers in the minerals and energy industry may perform the following tasks:

  • Plan and supervise power generating equipment;
  • Supervise construction plans and specifications;
  • Supervise operating and maintenance staff;
  • Assist in the design and drawing of complex electrical systems;
  • Decide on the type and arrangement of circuits, transformers;
  • Make or improve electrical products such as motors, equipment, and
  • Write and interpret specifications and regulations about electric power equipment and its use.

Money

Electrical Engineer: $75,000 - $130,000
Site Engineer: $75,000 — $130,000
Project Engineer: $85,000 — $140,000

Pathways

Entry to these occupations is generally through a Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical Engineering) degree or higher qualification.
