MTEC
The Minerals Tertiary Education Council (MTEC) was set up in 1999 by the Minerals Council of Australia (MCA) to build a world-class tertiary learning environment. MTEC is involved in a number of initiatives to assist the minerals tertiary sector and the industry including:
University Programs
MTEC supports our partner universities in collaborative undergraduate and postgraduate programs. Such programs include:
Mining Education Australia (MEA):
A program where expert lecturers present a common third and fourth year syllabus in Mining Engineering to students of The University of NSW, The University of Queensland and The WA School of Mines (Curtin University).
Metallurgical Education Partnership (MEP):
A partnership to commence in 2008 that sees students from Murdoch University, The University of Queensland and The WA School of Mines (Curtin University) work in collaborative teams to complete a final year project in Metallurgical Plant Design.
Minerals Geoscience:
MTEC supports a number of universities that teach specialist geology skills through the collaborative Minerals Geoscience Masters Program and MTEC Honours courses.
MTEC Research
MTEC researches the supply and demand of students in mining engineering, minerals geoscience and metallurgy for the minerals industry. The data collected consists of university student enrolments, uptake of industry experience, graduate employment statistics and graduate destination information. From this data, both industry and universities are informed of the state of supply and demand and can assess and plan for the future.
